Process documentationFile-Based Segmentation

File-based segmentation is suited to the segmentation of a high data volume of approximately 500,000 or more business partners. As a basis for the segmentation, you can use comprehensive data from other SAP systems, but an external system can also be used as a data source.

Note that the delta handling function is not available for file-based segmentation.

Prerequisites

You have installed SAP NetWeaver Search and Classification (TREX).

Process

File-based segmentation involves the following steps:

  1. You create a CSV file with the required attributes and attribute values.

  2. In Customizing, you create a data source for the CSV file, with the origin type File Import (Create Data Source for High Volume button). The attribute names that you use here must match the attribute names in the CSV file.

You find the corresponding Customizing activity in Customizing for Customer Relationship Management, under Start of the navigation path Marketing Next navigation step Segmentation Next navigation step General Settings Next navigation step Maintain Data Sources and Attribute Lists End of the navigation path.

For more information about creating data sources, see Editing Data Sources and Attribute Lists.

  3. You can use the report CRM_MKTTG_FDS_LOAD_FILE_UI to upload the CSV file into the TREX index without having to log on to the TREX System.

    Note Note

When calling the report, you must enter the file name together with the complete path in the File Name field.

    End of the note.

The system schedules the file import as a background job.

  4. In Customizing, you create an attribute list with the category High Volume Segmentation (TREX). At the same time, you assign the data source that you created in step 2. You select the attributes with which you want to work during segmentation.

You find the corresponding Customizing activity in Customizing for Customer Relationship Management, under Start of the navigation path Marketing Next navigation step Segmentation Next navigation step General Settings Next navigation step Maintain Data Sources and Attribute Lists End of the navigation path.

For more information about creating attribute lists, see Editing Data Sources and Attribute Lists.
