Function documentationWorking with Segmentation Bases

Segmentation bases are used to restrict the selection base during target group modeling. They are used to make a pre-selection that allows you to avoid having to enter certain selection criteria again for every modeling run, and that also allows you to exclude certain business partners (for example, business partners marked for deletion) from the selection.

Note Note

The information in the following sections refers to segmentation bases within classic segmentation.

End of the note.

Segmentation bases can either be created by reports that must be predefined in Customizing or during the segmentation process itself.

In the standard delivery, the following programs are used to create segmentation bases:

  • B2B/B2C

  • Country Distribution

  • Territory Management

  • All Business Partners by Channel Partner

  • From Target Group

Integration

Reporting can be carried out for segmentation bases in SAP NetWeaver Business Warehouse. When creating the segmentation basis, you specify the BW system to which the data is to be transferred.

Prerequisites

In Customizing, you must have defined a program for creating the segmentation basis.

Features

  • Creating segmentation bases via a selection program

A separate transaction is available in Customizing for creating segmentation bases. This is where you define the usage of the segmentation basis (for authorization purposes).

You can create the segmentation basis in one of two ways: directly online or at a later point in time (for example, overnight) in a batch job.

  • Creating segmentation bases from within segmentation

You can create a segmentation basis from any target group.

  • Updating segmentation bases

For segmentation bases that you have created in Customizing, the update is already scheduled from the outset. For other segmentation bases, you must regularly schedule the update as a background job using the report CRM_MKTTG_TREX_UPDATE.

  • Mandatory use of segmentation bases

You can use the segmentation basis to define that a campaign manager can only select customer data for which he or she is responsible. When the campaign manager creates a segmentation model, he or she must also enter the appropriate segmentation basis.

In Customizing, you can specify that the use of segmentation bases is mandatory for certain usage categories. The usage category is linked to the authorization object, which can be used to determine which user has display, change, or delete authorization for the usage category.
