This business function enables you to better integrate your ERP processes in discrete and repetitive manufacturing with an MES and set up a comprehensive manufacturing solution.
The business function Integration of Production Orders with an MES (LOG_PP_MES_INT_01) already improves the integration of production orders with an MES. This integration has now been extended to various business objects and the transparency of the integrated production processes has been improved. You can use distribution models when synchronizing master data and distributing production orders and planned orders.

In addition, you have activated the business function Integration of Production Orders with an MES (LOG_PP_MES_INT_01).
To be able to use the new function, in Customizing for Production, you must call up Integration with a Manufacturing Execution System. Under this menu option, there are various Customizing activities and several Business Add-Ins (BAdIs) that you can use to adjust the MES integration to reflect your business requirements.
The following functions are available:
The data replication framework (DRF) enables you to distribute production data to SAP ME. The integration with the DRF allows you to transfer bundled master data and transaction data to an MES. Using a replication model and the assignment for the corresponding outbound implementation, you can specify which data you wish to replicate. You can use a detailed filter concept to specify precisely which business objects are to be relevant for distribution.
The change pointer function distributes any changes that you make to the master data, to the MES. The automated DRF processes ensure a high level of data consistency. The data is transferred using IDocs. You can use the DRF log to determine which IDocs have already been sent and promptly monitor the integration of your production data.

In addition to the distribution option using the DRF, the following functions are also available to support production order integration:
If you make changes to a distributed production order, the changed order is automatically sent to the MES again. You can specify what changes you want to permit after the initial distribution, for example, changes to the production quantity. You can do this using various Customizing activities under
.You can specify serial numbers for the finished product in the production order. These are sent to an MES in an IDoc. You can use additional configurable checks to ensure that distributed serial numbers are not deleted or used for other orders.
Documents from document management are communicated to an SAP ME by means of the IDoc. You can add the documents as production resources/tools or assign them directly to the order header or operations. You can access the original documents directly using a URL, assuming they are stored in the SAP vault or in a network directory.
For improved classification of orders, the long text for the production order is also sent to the MES. You can enter this text in the header screen of the transactions Create Production Order (CO01) and Change Production Order (CO02).
Assuming you have created an inspection lot for the production order, the data for this inspection lot (such as inspection characteristics) is also sent to the MES.
The new integration solution also offers improved data consistency between ERP and an MES for the production order. The ERP system prevents you from entering quantity confirmations directly for distributed orders. You can enter the quantity confirmations using the MES.

You can now also use the integrated MES scenario for planned orders. The following functions are available:
The steps to save and automatically distribute the new planned order are combined into one step, as long as the planned order meets the criteria for the distribution. This saves you from having to call up additional transactions.
You can control the distribution of orders by date. Planned orders whose opening dates lie in the future are not considered in the replication. You can trigger their distribution by scheduling a background job in the Execute Data Replication (DRFOUT) transaction.
Confirmation of the material and production version for previously distributed planned orders is made using the MES. The system automatically compares deviations between the actual production quantity and the original planned quantity requested, ensuring that the data in ERP and MES is always consistent.

Integrating the various goods movements ensures that the MES receives information about the production components available for production and can therefore set up its own component stocks. The ERP system supports the following goods movements:
Goods issue for an order (movement type 261)
One-step stock transfer from location to location (movement type 311)
Furthermore, you can activate consistency checks for stock integration. You do this by configuring the settings described in Customizing for Production under

Work centers and routings can also be distributed to an MES using the DRF. Based on the DRF standard functions, you can use initial replication for all objects that meet the filter criteria. Any changes you make to the objects are also synchronized with the MES. If you want to add additional documents to the routing as production resources/tools, these are also sent to the MES.
