Object documentationTechnical Data (SAP for Telecommunications) and Technical Objects (SAP for Utilities)

Technical data (SAP for Telecommunications) is data regarding connections for provider services, such as telecommunication services. Technical data includes the following:

  • Data about the premise, to which the service is provided

  • Data about the exact point of access for the service within the premise (service location)

  • Data about the service connection

Technical objects (SAP for Utilities) are the connection object, premise, and point of delivery.

  • A connection object is a link between installation and postal regional structure. It is usually a building.

  • A premise is an enclosed spatial unit supplied with energy, for example, an apartment.

  • A point of delivery is the location at which a utility service for a customer is supplied or determined.

The technical data (SAP for Telecommunications) for a service and its connection is mapped in a multi-level hierarchy. This hierarchy can consist of two or three levels:

Two-level model

Example

Three-level model

Example

Premise

  • Address for a fixed network connection (single family home)

  • SIM card for a cellular network connection

Premise

Address for an apartment building with multiple connections

Connection

  • ISDN connection

  • Cellular network connection

Connection

  • ISDN connection

  • Internet connection

Premises contain address data for provider service connections, such as an address for a fixed network telecommunications connection, or a SIM card number for a cellular network connection.

Service locations are lower-level spacial units within a premise, specifying the exact location of the connection.

Connections contain data about the services provided via the connection, such as telephone numbers.

You can search for and edit existing technical data and also create new technical data:

  • You can use different search criteria to search for technical data (premise, service location, connection).

    Example Example

For example, you can search for premises and service locations by address or business partner, and you can search for connections by telephone number or business partner. End of example.

    End of the example.

Any lower-level data related to the search results is displayed in a tree structure in the list of results. You can display details of the data at any level. In the details screen for an object, you can display existing higher-level and lower-level objects and switch to other search results.

  • You can use templates to create new technical data on multiple levels, which makes the process much easier. You also have the option to change the template you choose to meet your requirements.

    Example Example

You want to create technical data for a property with multiple fixed network connections. To do this, you use a template for a premise with multiple connections.

    End of the example.

While processing the premise or service location, you can create additional lower-level data (service location or connection respectively). The joint higher-level data is copied automatically for the new service locations or connections.

    Caution Caution

You can delete any new technical data as long as you have not yet saved it. Once you have saved, you can no longer delete the technical data in the Interaction Center. When you save, the data hierarchy and all its levels are saved.

    End of the caution.

The technical objects (SAP for Utilities) are mapped in a hierarchy in the CRM system.

Connection objects primarily contain address data, as well as some specific data from SAP IS-U, and they can be enhanced with customer-specific field.

Premises are not defined as separate objects in SAP CRM, but are part of the point of delivery. They contain a small amount of data from SAP IS-U, such as the number of people in an apartment, which is stored in all points of delivery.

Points of delivery also contain data from SAP IS-U, such as the external identifier or grid information, as well as some information from the connection object. As is the case with connection objects in SAP CRM, points of delivery can also be enhanced with customer-specific fields based on division.

Example Example

You can search for connection objects, premises, and points of delivery by address or by business partner.

End of the example.

Any lower-level objects related to the search results are displayed in a tree structure in the list of results. You can display details of the objects at any level. In the details screen for an object, you can display existing higher-level and lower-level objects and switch to other search results (object workbench). You can use templates to create new techncial data on multiple levels, which makes the process much easier. You also have the option to change the template you choose to meet your requirements.

Example Example

As part of a sales process, you want to create a complete construct consisting of a connection object, a premise, and two points of delivery (one for gas and one for electricity). You can do this using a template in the object workbench. End of example.

End of the example.

Depending on your authorization settings, you can create as many premises as you want for existing connection objects.

Caution Caution

You can delete any new technical objects as long as you have not yet saved them. Once you have have saved the technical objects, you can no longer delete them. When you save, the object hierarchy and all its levels are saved.

End of the caution.
