You can use this business function to optimize and more efficiently structure Learning Management processes in your enterprise. The following is a detailed list of the business function's advantages:

  • Business Package for Course Administrator 1.40

    • Administration of Courses and Participation

      This business package provides course administrators with user-friendly user interfaces for carrying out the administrative tasks in their day-to-day activities. Using a portal role, course administrators are given simple and effective access to all the administrative tasks for courses and participation that they must complete.

    • Administration of Course Content

      This business package also offers course administrators simpler and more efficient user interfaces for publishing course content and enables a direct preview of published course content.

  • Preparing Locally Available Course Content

    The business function supports course administrators in distributing e-learning-type courses to remote locations with restricted network access as well as in updating course content.

  • DataSources for Course Appraisals

    The business function supports course administrators in evaluating and analyzing course appraisals in order to optimize the course offering using this information.

  • Activation for Concurrent Employment

    The business function supports Learning Management processes in your enterprise when concurrent employment places different requirements on certain employees. For example, you can effectively manage different required courses for concurrent or global employees.

  • Learning Management Services for Managers

    The business function provides managers with a user-friendly interface for administrating their employees' learning activities, getting an overview of required qualifications, and booking courses and mandatory assignments for employees. The services are available to managers in SAP Manager Self-Service and offer a single point-of-entry to all team-related activities in Learning Management.

  • Business Package for Instructor/Tutor 1.41

* If you have activated this business function, you must install version 604 of the above-mentioned JAVA software components for the following tools:

  • Content Player

  • All installed Offline Players

  • All installed authoring environments

If you do not activate the HCM, Learning Solution 01 or HCM, Learning Solution 02 business functions, you absolutely must use version 600 of the relevant JAVA software component (LSOCP 600, LSOOP 600, LSOAE 600).

If you only activate the HCM, Learning Solution 01 business function, you absolutely must use version 602 of the relevant JAVA software component (LSOCP 602, LSOOP 602, LSOAE 602).

If you activate both business functions, you absolutely must use version 604 of the relevant JAVA software component (LSOCP 604, LSOOP 604, LSOAE 604).

  • You have made the required settings in Customizing for SAP Learning Solution for Content Management.

Features

Administration of Courses and Participation

While the administrative tasks in Learning Management processes were previously carried out using SAP GUI interfaces in the back-end system of SAP Learning Solution, the new portal role provides course administrators with Web-based services for carrying out course preparation activities, course offering activities, and day-to-day activities. The following tasks can be completed with these services:

  • Course planning

  • Administration of course participation

  • Administration of required resources for conducting courses

  • Monitoring capacity load utilization for courses

  • Following up of courses

  • Performance of billing and activity allocation

  • Conducting of required courses and administration of participation bookings

  • Administration of course-related correspondence

The regular activities of course administrators are are compiled into logical, related worksets that simplify access to the information and functions relevant for course administrators.

The portal role also provides specific worklists that support course administrators in checking and editing the course status, monitoring booking progress, and checking for capacity bottlenecks.

The new user interfaces are based on Web Dynpro for ABAP. This way, course administrators can access the corresponding back-end functions in Training Management using a browser-supported tool.

Administration of Course Content

Previously, course content was published in the authoring environment and required multiple substeps. The new portal role of course administrator now offers new user interfaces for a single point-of-entry to a faster and simpler publishing process. With this portal role, Web-based services are delivered that enable convenient publication of course content (SCORM, AICC, or individual content files, such as PDFs) and a direct preview of the published course content.

Instruction designers and authors make the developed course content available in a central storage location, which is accessed using file transfer protocol (FTP). This way, authors and instructional designers that only publish external course content do not need to install the authoring environment of SAP Learning Solution. Only authorized users can check learning content into the master repository as course content and publish it.

Preparing Locally Available Course Content

This function supports course administrators in distributing e-learning-type courses using removable media, such as CDs, DVDs, or flash memories. Learners can load courses from removable media. Learners can also synchronize their learning progress. This allows even learners in remote locations with only restricted LAN or internet access to take part in training activities that are based on e-learning or Web-based training methods.

  • Courses can be distributed offline with removable media.

    Network restrictions are thus effectively circumvented.

  • Courses can be copied from removable media to a local computer and saved locally.

    This saves network resources since not all learners are running the courses online.

  • A network connection is only necessary for synchronizing learning progress.

DataSources for Course Appraisals

Using pre-defined DataSources, course administrators can develop their own Business Intelligence evaluations according to their requirements in order to evaluate and analyze data from the learners' course appraisals. Based on the results of this analysis, specific aspects like course content, course duration, or the entire course offerering can be optimized.

The DataSources are dependent on Business Intelligence applications and can be used in customer BI systems.

Activation for Concurrent Employment

By activating concurrent employment, Learning Management processes can now be supported in enterprises with concurrent and global employees.

Required courses for employees with multiple personnel assignments can differ for each assignment: For example, the analysis of the qualification requirements for a concurrently employed person can have different results based on the qualifications/requirements profile. These employees must attend different courses to close qualification deficits and, if necessary, different managers may have to approve the courses. In this case, learners must be able to log on with different users in order to display their training activities by personnel assignment.

When Concurrent Employment in SAP Learning Solution is activated, the business transactions that are supported include but are not limited to the following:

  • Learners get a general overview of all their training activities based on their personnel assignments.

  • Administrators and managers can manage and evaluate the training activities of a concurrently employed person based on their individual work relationships.

  • Concurrently employed instructors can manage their instructional activities based on personnel assignment.

Learning Management Services for Managers

Previously, managers could find qualification deficits in the team and recommend training activities, but could not directly change participation bookings. The portal role of manager in Manager Self-Service has now been enhanced with specific services that allow managers to control the training activities of the employees in their teams directly.

Managers can complete the following tasks using these services:

  • Administration of required courses for team employees

  • Participation cooking for courses and mandatory assignments

  • Editing and deletion of participation bookings

The new user interfaces are based on Web Dynpro for ABAP. This way, with the aid of a browser-supported tool, managers have a central point-of-entry to all of the worksets assigned to them.

In order to use the Learning Management services for managers, you must implement SAP Manager Self-Service.
