Procedure documentationUsing Top-Down Budgeting

You use this procedure to assign your total available budget to the top node of the marketing hierarchy, and then to distribute the budget across the lower-level marketing projects.

Alternatively, you can distribute the budget down to a certain level in the marketing hierarchy, and then let other authorized persons, such as regional managers, distribute the budget across the marketing projects below this level.

Prerequisites

  • Your marketing hierarchy contains marketing projects of the categories Marketing Plan (MP) and Campaign (CP) only.

You cannot do top-down budgeting with other categories of marketing project.

  • The following planning profile groups are assigned to the marketing projects in the marketing hierarchy:

    • Marketing Planning (SAP2) for the top node

    • Campaign Planning (4MKT) for all other marketing projects in the hierarchy

Alternatively, you have defined your own planning profile groups for this purpose. For more information, see Customizing for Customer Relationship Management under Start of the navigation path Marketing Next navigation step Marketing Planning and Campaign Management Next navigation step Key Figure Planning Next navigation step Define Planning Profile Groups End of the navigation path.

Procedure

  1. In your marketing plan, click Edit in the Planning assignment block.

    The Planning page appears.

  2. Select planning profile group Marketing Planning and planning profile Marketing Top-down planning (Top Node).

A table appears displaying the top node of the marketing plan hierarchy, that is, the marketing plan you started from without any lower-level marketing projects.

  3. Enter the amount available for all of the marketing projects that belong to that hierarchy and click Back.

You return to the marketing plan overview page.

  4. At the top of the overview page, click Budgeting.

A new page appears with a table that shows the complete hierarchy of marketing projects that belong to the marketing plan. Each higher-level marketing project appears twice. The first line displays the overall amount available for that level, the second line displays the part of the amount that has not been used up so far.

    Note Note

Alternatively, click Budgeting in a lower-level marketing project that has budget assigned.

You can distribute budget to the levels of the marketing hierarchy below.

    End of the note.
  5. Enter your budget as desired.

As soon as you enter an amount on a lower level, the overall amount on the upper level is reduced automatically by that amount.

  6. Click Save, then Back.
