A role enables a group of users who have similar tasks within a company to access the applications and transactions they need to complete these tasks.

Integration

Portal roles are available with the following SAP NetWeaver releases:

  • SAP NetWeaver 7.0 including enhancement package 1 – 3

  • SAP NetWeaver 7.3

  • SAP NetWeaver 7.31

Information about the configuration of the roles can be found in the role documentation.

With SAP NetWeaver 7.3 and SAP NetWeaver 7.31 there are slight changes to the configuration. See the SAP NetWeaver documentation on the Help Portal under   http://help.sap.com/nw73   SAP NetWeaver Portal   Portal   Managing the Portal  .

Features

There are different types of roles available for role-specific access to the functions in the SAP system:

  • For roles that are delivered technically in Business Packages, you can use the SAP functions on the Portal.

  • In addition to this, there are roles in the back-end system that control authorizations and contain a user-specific menu. You can access these roles using transaction PFCG.

  • Automatic roles are a combination of the above-mentioned role types. They are processed in the back-end system using transaction PFCG and they give you access to the enclosed functions using a Portal.
