Distance or displacement of an object from the reference line of a linear, technical asset (such as the distance of a signal post from the middle of the railway line, or the distance of a manhole cover from the edge of the road).

Examples for offset types

• Perpendicular offset from reference line

Lateral or radial displacement to the right or left.

• Vertical offset from reference line

Distance of an object either above or below the reference line.
