Function documentationDeduplicating Segmentation Elements

You can use deduplication of an entire segmentation model, target group, or product segment during target group modeling to ensure that the same business partner or household is not contacted more than once in a marketing campaign. Deduplication occurs according to methods that you define, and, when deduplicating within a segmentation model, according to priorities that you can assign to individual segments.

Prerequisites

  • In Customizing for Customer Relationship Management, you have defined a deduplication method under Start of the navigation path Marketing Next navigation step Segmentation Next navigation step General Settings Next navigation step Define Deduplication Method End of the navigation path.

  • You have implemented the Business Add-In BAdI: Determination of Deduplication Method.

Features

  • Deduplication methods

You define the criteria used to perform deduplication in Customizing and via the BAdI Determination of Deduplication Method. The SAP standard delivery does not contain any predefined deduplication methods.

You can choose a deduplication method for both an entire segmentation model and for individual target groups.

  • Prioritization

You can assign a priority to your segmentation elements to define the deduplication order. You can choose a priority between 0 and 9999, where 0 is the highest priority, that is, segments with priority 0 have the greatest importance during deduplication. After deduplication, the duplicated data record remains in the segmentation element with the higher priority (for example, priority 1); the data record is deleted from the segmentation element with a lower priority (for example, priority 4).

    Note Note

Exclusion lists, such as the “Robinson List”, are an exception. These lists always have priority -1 and are not used in the campaign execution.

After an upgrade, if you perform deduplication for segments that were created in a previous release, these segments are given priority 0 by default.

    End of the note.
  • Counting

If you have selected a deduplication rule for your segmentation model, the number of business partners in the segments of the segmentation model after deduplication is displayed. On the other hand, in the segmentation model properties, the number of business partners before deduplication is displayed.

Activities

You can deduplicate an entire segmentation model or individual target groups.

In the graphical modeling, you can deduplicate the current segmentation model using the Deduplicate pushbutton. In the deduplication settings, you choose the deduplication method. The chosen deduplication method is also displayed in the detailed overview of the segmentation model, however, you are not able to change the deduplication method there.

You deduplicate individual target groups by selecting the required target groups while holding the Ctrl key and then choosing Deduplicate Target Group under Options.

Example

A segmentation model contains several target groups that are contacted in different phases of the same marketing campaign. The deduplication therefore needs to be performed within the segmentation model to ensure that the same business partner is not contacted more than once.
