Instead of using the BI Integration Wizard, you can manually configure a query on your data service by dragging a cube (OLAP systems) or a table (relational systems) to the workspace. This provides you with a "shortcut" into creating a query. However, after creating your query in this way, you must configure the input and output ports of your data service manually.
As outlined in Use the BI Integration Wizard.
Caution
Depending on how your systems have been named, it may not always be clear which data services listed in the Find Data task panel have been configured with BI Java Connectors. Note that in your system landscape you may have systems based on multiple JDBC connectors. A system based on the JDBC connector provided by the portal, for example, does not provide the BI capability necessary to use the BI query functionality, whereas a system based on the BI JDBC Connector does. In the Find Data Services task panel, you can recognize a BI JDBC system if you see tables. If you see stored procedures, it is a portal JDBC system.
On the Find Data Services task panel, from the System drop-down list, select an OLAP or relational system.
In OLAP systems, browse or look for a cube. In relational systems, browse or look for a table.
Select the cube or table and drag it onto the workspace.
The data service's metadata is retrieved, and a default query is created based on the templates available in the BI Integration Wizard:
System Type |
Default Query Template |
---|---|
OLAP system: cubes |
Grand Totals (OLAP) |
Relational system: tables |
All Data (Relational) |
See Modifying Queries to learn about how to modify the default query.
Configure the input and output ports of your data service manually in order to create a deployable model (see Further Configuring Queries).
