Procedure documentationRemoving Floating Aliases Locate this document in the navigation structure

Every portal system must have at least one system alias. A system alias references the PCD path of the system object. When a system is no longer needed, it is typically removed using the Delete option for that system in the Portal Content folder of the Portal Catalog; this also removes any aliases associated with the deleted system. If other, more technical, low-level means are used to delete systems, it is possible that the aliases of these systems remain. These disassociated aliases are called floating aliases and, because they make specific references and are unique, they cannot not be reused while they exist. Remove floating aliases according to the procedure described below.

Prerequisites

Floating aliases exist in the current portal.

Procedure

  1. From the top-level navigation in the portal, select   System Administration   System Configuration  .

  2. In the detailed navigation panel, click the Floating Alias link.

If any floating aliases exist in the system, they appear in the table that opens in the content area of the portal.

    Note Note

The table shows only floating aliases by default; it displays all system aliases if you select the Display all aliases.

    End of the note.
  3. In the selection column on the left of the table, select the floating aliases (multiple selection is supported) and click Remove.

After confirmation, a report list appears under the table showing the aliases removed, and indicating success of removal.

    Note Note

It is not possible to delete an alias that references an existing system object in the PCD. If any of the aliases selected for removal are active, the report list shows these aliases and indicates that they cannot be deleted.

    End of the note.
