In this example, you create a basic analytical application, or dashboard, that displays the key performance indicators in the major retail channels of a consumer-products manufacturer, together with details about revenue. It can be used to monitor and track the budgets for promotional activities. The Trade Marketing Manager can evaluate the effectiveness of promotions based on a plan versus actual comparison regarding volume and revenue.

Prerequisites

  • You have access to an SAP BI system (NetWeaver 2004 SP Stack 14 and greater), and it is configured to connect via the SAP BI Connector in the portal landscape. See Defining Portal Systems and Aliases in the SAP NetWeaver Visual Composer Installation & Configuration Guide.

  • You have been mapped to a user of this BI system.

  • You have the following systems installed as data sources:

    • BW 3.5 (BI Content 3.5.3), with demo content activated

    • CRM release 4.0

    • R/3 release 4.70

    • SAP AFS application 5.0

Process

You build the iView in three stages:

  • Add your data sources.

  • Define output charts and tables, and connect them with the data sources.

  • Fine-tune the iView layout and deploy the model.

Result

You create an analytical application through which the user can select a trade-promotion channel, view the brands in that channel and as a result, view charts that indicate which promotion tactics have the highest return on investment according to budget availability. This gives the user quick insight into where the money is, and where it is recommended to use the available trade dollars to drive volume.
