Activity Data Collector
The activity data collector is a tool for tracing activity in the portal, such as which users logged in and what iViews were viewed.
The activity data collector monitors portal request and maintains details of each request, such as the logged-in user, processing time, and requested iView. For each request, a row is added to one or more data files.
To make use of the activity data collector, perform the following tasks:
Activate and Configure the Activity Data Collector: Settings on the activity data collector service enable you to activate data collection, and to configure how data collection is performed. You can specify, for example, what statistics are kept, where data files are stored, and the format of the data files.
For more information, see Configuring the Activity Data Collector.
Create Reports: Create activity reports with Business Intelligence, Microsoft Excel or other analytic tool using the data files created by the activity data collector.
You may want or need to process the files - combining files for different time periods, or uploading the data to a database or other system - and then create reports from the processed data.
The Portal Activity Report collects basic information about portal visitors and the iViews and pages viewed, and provides an iView for creating basic reports about portal activity. The data is aggregated, and this aggregated data is displayed with the portal activity report iView in predefined report types.
The activity data collector collects more detailed information about portal requests, and saves this information into files, one line for each request. You have access to the raw data. You are responsible for analyzing this data and creating reports, using non-portal tools.
