Function documentationCreating Outbound Packing Instructions

In the sales order, you can store information on how the product should be packed and sent to the customer. You can send this information as an outbound packing instruction to the party responsible for logistics, for example Warehouse Management.

Integration

You can define outbound packing instructions at different levels in master data:

  • Outbound packing instructions for the business partner in the business partner master data in the Notes assignment block.

  • Outbound packing instructions for the product in the product master data in the Notes assignment block.

You need to have already defined the text name in Customizing for Customer Relationship Management, at Start of the navigation path Customer Relationship Management Next navigation step Master Data Next navigation step Products Next navigation step Special Settings for Service Parts Management Next navigation step Create Texts for Outbound Packing Instructions End of the navigation path (transaction SO10_PCKI).

The system forwards the text for the outbound packing instruction to other systems, such as Warehouse Management.

Prerequisites

  • In Customizing for Customer Relationship Management at Start of the navigation path Basic Functions Next navigation step Text Management Next navigation step Define Text Objects and Text Types End of the navigation path, you have defined a text object (for example, CRM_ORDERH - transaction header) and a text type for the outbound packing instruction (for example, text ID: PCKI) for header and item level.

  • In Customizing for Customer Relationship Management at Start of the navigation path Basic Functions Next navigation step Text Management Next navigation step Define Text Determination Procedure End of the navigation path, you have defined a text determination procedure for the corresponding text object (for example, CRM_ORDERH - transaction header) and have added the text type (for example, text ID: PCKI) to the definition of the text determination procedure.

  • In the product and/or business partner master data, you have created a corresponding text in the text ID (for example PCKI) for the outbound packing instruction. You create the texts using the options detailed in the Integration section.

Features

If you have created a text in the master data for products and/or business partners, this text is automatically displayed as a default value for the outbound packing instruction at header level, item level, or both when a sales order is created. You can change the outbound packing instruction during order processing, and overwrite it with a new text. This is the case both for texts that have been created via the business partner master data or product master data, and for texts for which the product is related to a corresponding business partner.

If you have created an outbound packing instruction in the business partner master data, it is entered in the header data and item data of the sales order when the order is created. If a text has been additionally created at product level, it is overwritten.

If you have created an outbound packing instruction in the product master data, it is only entered in the item data of the sales order when the order is created.

If there are several outbound packing instructions, the system enters the outbound packing instruction into the order according to the following priorities:

  • Outbound packing instruction where the product is related to a corresponding business partner

  • Outbound packing instruction from the business partner master data

  • Outbound packing instruction from the product master data

If no texts have been created in the master data for the product and/or business partner for the outbound packing instructions, you can enter a text of your choice in the sales order in the Notes assignment block at both header level and item level, to describe how the product should be packed and sent. When you save the sales order, this text is also sent to logistics execution, and is used there as an instruction for packing and sending the product.
