SAP NetWeaver Business Client 1.0 (with PFCG Connection) 

Purpose

The SAP NetWeaver Business Client (NWBC) is a new, desktop-based SAP integration platform that provides end users with a seamless integration of classic SAP GUI-based transactions and new applications developed in Web Dynpro. Existing browser-based SAP applications can also be integrated.

Implementation Notes

The Business Client is provided both for Java/portal applications and for ABAP applications. The following documentation describes the Business Client for the ABAP environment. You can find the documentation for the Business Client in the Portal and Java environment in SAP NetWeaver Business Client for the Portal.

The graphics in the following documentation are examples of prototypes only. The design of the Business Client is developing continually. For this reason, the UIs may vary from one Business Client version to the next.

Features

The NetWeaver Business Client is user interface (UI) software running on the desktop that communicates via HTTP(s) to a server in order to display application interfaces. The interfaces make it easy for the user to start the required application.

The main components of the Business Client UI are the frame and the canvas:

●      Frame

The frame contains standard menu entries in the upper area, and miniature images of open sessions and transactions that enable simple navigation between screens (session tab area). The left part of the screen contains the role-based functions for the user (home area).

●      Canvas

The actual transaction the user is working in is displayed on the canvas or application content area. The canvas represents the native technology in which the source application created its screens.

Practically all standard UI technologies can be presented on a canvas:

○       Web Dynpro ABAP applications

○       Web Dynpro Java applications

○       BSP applications

○       HTML pages

○       Dynpro screens that are based on the classic dynpro programming model of SAP

○       Interactive forms and print forms (PDF)

Restrictions

External graphics based on the classical SAP GUI programming model (Dynpro) cannot be run in the Business Client. For more information, see SAP Note 1029940.

F4 help does not work in control mode with SAP GUI screens in the Business Client. For more information, see SAP Note 1044235.

The Business Client does not support server users. Logon tickets are not usually issued for SERVICE and SYSTEM user types. For more information, see SAP Note 622464.
