SAP format in which a business message is sent.
An IDoc is a specific message formatted with the IDoc type. An IDoc type can usually send more than one type of message. These are known as the "logical messages" that correspond to different business processes.
Purchase order number 4711 was dispatched to a vendor as IDoc number 0815. IDoc number 0815 is formatted with the IDoc type ORDERS01 and has, for example, the status records "created" and "sent". This purchase order corresponds to the "logical" message ORDERS.
