Inserting Installed Base Components in a
Structure
You can incorporate as many components as you like in each installed base and you can include subordinate components for each of these components. Create an installed base structure with as many nodes as you like.
● You have defined the following in Customizing:
○ Which installed base categories there are
○ Which object families can be assigned to the installed base categories, which object families can be assigned at lower levels to one another, and which icons are displayed for the object families in the UI
Make the settings in Customizing for Customer Relationship Management by choosing Master Data ョ Installed Base ョ Objects/Object Family.
○ Which component categories there are

For more information, see Customizing for Customer Relationship Management and choose Master Data ョ Installed Base ョ Installed Base Category.
● If you want to assign an installed base component of the type Product, the relevant product must have already been created in the system.
● If you want to assign an installed base component of the type Installed Base, you must have already created the relevant installed base in the system.
● If you want to assign an installed base component of the type Object, you must have already created the object family intended for this in Customizing and assigned it to the current installed base category.

1. Create a new installed base or change an existing one.
2. In the Installed Base Hierarchy, select the installed base or the component to which you want to assign other components.
3. Choose New in one of the following assignment blocks (Product Components, Text Components, Object Components, or Installed Base Components) and enter the required data.
The component, along with its icon and description, is entered in the Installed Base Hierarchy.
As soon as a component is inserted in the hierarchy, it receives a time stamp that records the date and time of assignment (Valid From).
Later changes to a component are also recorded. The system enters an internal Valid To time and an additional Valid From time.
This means that when you make changes to structures or components, you can:
● Reconstruct the installed base in an earlier state
This option is available on the SAP Easy Access screen and in mobile service.
● Compare the statuses of an installed base at two different points in time
This option is available on the SAP Easy Access screen (see Displaying Two Installed Bases (SAP Easy Access)) and in mobile service.
