Classification of Financings
The classification of a financing as a capital lease or an operating lease indicates which accounting principles apply to a financing transaction, for example U.S. GAAP. In SAP Customer Relationship Management (SAP CRM), you need to classify financings so that you are able to perform for customer information purposes the tax calculations that have already been executed in the document.
In Lease Accounting in SAP ERP, the Lease Accounting Engine uses this classification to trigger the corresponding accrual postings, and the asset accounting and one-time postings in the general ledger.

Caution
You must enter the same classifications in SAP CRM that you have created in SAP ERP.
The accounting principles in SAP ERP and SAP CRM must be synchronous.
SAP ERP needs the classification of a financing to post data in the back-end systems. SAP CRM, however, needs this classification to display any pending taxes and fees, with the result that the payment schedules calculated for the customer contain actual values. It is therefore necessary to classify financing contracts in SAP CRM first.
You can classify financing documents as follows:
In the master data of financing products, you can define the possible accounting principles and classifications for the product in the distribution-chain-dependent data. If you use the financing product in a document, the system transfers the settings for the classification from the master data.
For more information, see Classification.
In the financing item of the document, you can change the classification transferred from the master data of the financing product.
You can initiate an action in the financing item that triggers the automatic classification in SAP ERP (action FS_CLASSIF_CALL, action profile LEASING_HEADER_QUOTATION).
SAP CRM transfers the relevant document data to SAP ERP; SAP ERP performs the classification and returns the result to SAP CRM.
When you release a financing item or a financing document, the system automatically triggers the action for the classification in SAP ERP.
Note
If you set the Default indicator for the classification in the document, you can influence the process of classification in SAP ERP as follows:
When you release the document, the system does not start the classification process in SAP ERP.
When you trigger the action manually, the system executes classification in SAP ERP, but the classification value remains in SAP CRM. If the values in SAP CRM and SAP ERP do not match, the system displays an error message.
