Process documentation Providing Mobile Clients with SAP BW Data Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Purpose

The SAP Business Information Warehouse (SAP BW) is a Data Warehouse that can be used to collect data from different sources, be they internal systems - (such as the SAP Customer Relationship Management system) or external sources. You can then use workbooks and related queries to provide mobile clients with the information pooled in SAP BW. You can use roles, variants, and user names in SAP BW to control which data is sent to which mobile client user. In this way, each user only receives the data that is relevant to them.

You essentially control the transfer of data from the Administration Console. This is where you manage the BW requests and create subscriptions that are used to send the data to selected mobile Structure linksites.

Process Flow

1.       Making Settings in SAP BW

In SAP BW, you create workbooks (which are Microsoft Excel files) that are to be sent to the mobile clients. You insert queries into a workbook and these queries contain the actual reporting data from SAP BW.

You save the workbooks in roles and assign to these roles the individual users who are to be sent the workbooks. Since the assignment of workbooks and users via workbooks is often not sufficiently detailed, you have the option of using display variants for each query to provide individual users with a user-specific view of the data and to send this view to the mobile client.

For detailed information on the settings in SAP BW, see Making Settings in SAP BW.

2.       Making Settings on the SAP CRM Server

In SAP CRM, you make the necessary settings for transferring data (in the form of roles, workbooks, and queries) from SAP BW (see Managing and Monitoring BW Requests for Mobile Clients).

This is also where you use subscriptions to distribute the transferred data to the mobile clients (see Distributing Data to Mobile Clients).

3.       Solving Problems on Mobile Clients

If the user of a mobile client alerts you to problems occurring there, you can find possible solutions under Solving Problems on Mobile Clients.
