Cluster Only: Assigning Tasks to
Nodes
Content Management (CM) services, like index management and content exchange, regularly generate tasks. In a SAP J2EE Engine cluster, you must assign these tasks to a CM instance otherwise they will not be executed. You assign each task to a single CM instance, making sure that there is an even distribution of tasks to all the available instances.

You can influence the distribution of the workload to different CM instances by adapting the times at which tasks are scheduled to run. By ensuring that long-running tasks or tasks with a high load are triggered at different times, you can distribute the load more evenly.
For more
information about the purpose of the tasks, see
Scheduler
Tasks.

1. In the portal, access the Knowledge Management configuration settings with System Administration ® System Configuration ® Knowledge Management ® Content Management.
2. Choose Global Services ® Scheduler Tasks.
A list of scheduler classes is displayed.
3. Assign a CM system to each task class that is displayed:
○ Attachment Scheduler Task
○ Check Valid From
○ Check Valid Until
○ CM Repository GC
○ Content Exchange Task Queue Reader
○ Index Management Task Queue Reader
○ Polling Scheduler Task
○ Report Scheduler Task
○ WebRepository GC
○ Workflow Attachment TaskWorkflow Deadline Task
The following tasks are visible, but not yet active. If you configure these tasks at a later point in time, do not forget to assign them to a CM system:
○ Workflow Activity Task
○ Workflow Deadline Task
To assign a task to a system:
a. Click the task you want to edit. In the next screen, use the checkbox to select the task again and choose Edit.

Some tasks like the Polling Scheduler Task are comprised of subtasks. Make sure that you select each subtask before assigning a CM system.
b. Under System ID, select the system where the task is to run and save the entry.

If, after the installation, you plan to set up a file system repository, make sure that it is set to read only. The file system repository does not support simultaneous editing of files by multiple servers.
