Assigning Subscriptions Indirectly
Use
By assigning subscriptions indirectly, you can distribute data using a defined hierarchy. As a general rule, the site assigned to an organizational unit receives the data from all the sites in the subordinate organizational units. This means that this site must be assigned the same subscriptions as its subordinate sites.
The indirect assignment for sites of the same site type is performed by higher level organizational units.
Example
A sales manager is responsible for three sales representatives. He should be provided with all the data the sales representatives can display and process on their laptops.
The site of the sales manager is assigned to the organizational unit "Sales Management". The organizational unit "Sales Representatives" is the subordinated organizational unit. The sites of the three sales representatives are assigned to this organizational unit. Subscriptions have already been created for the sales representatives.
By choosing Indirect Assignment of Subscriptions for the site of the sales manager all subscriptions of the sales representative are proposed for transfer. If all subscriptions are transferred, the sales manager receives the data, that the sales representatives receive.
Prerequisites
Procedure
The organizational structure is now displayed together with the corresponding sites and subscriptions in the area Objects of the screen Indirect Assignment of the Subscriptions. The selected site is highlighted (blue).
All the objects displayed in the area Objects are now locked for other users.
You can perform the following actions:
Symbol |
Action |
Assign means that this subscription has already been assigned to a lower-level site within the displayed organizational structure and therefore should also be assigned to the higher-level site, where it is missing. |
|
Deassign means that this subscription is not assigned to the lower-level sites within the displayed organizational structure and should therefore be removed from the higher-level site. |
|
Display means that no action is required for this subscription. The display should illustrate the relationships within the organizational structure. Normally this symbol is displayed for subscriptions of the lowest-level organizational unit. |
A further column shows the current status of the subscription.
The following statuses are possible:

The proposed action does not cause any conflicts. The displayed actions are executed, when you save the data. |
Indicates that the action suggested for the subscription will result in a conflict in the hierarchy. |

Allow : The proposed conflict is accepted. |
|
Reject : The proposed conflict is rejected. |
The results of an indirect assignment can only be saved when all the conflicts have been accepted or solved, that is, when all the conflict symbols () have been replaced with the symbols or .
You can undo the changes with the Undo last status change and Restore initial status pushbuttons.
Result
If you call an indirect assignment, an action is suggested for each subscription in the displayed organizational structure. This action is executed when the indirect assignment is saved.
If the execution of an action leads to a conflict (to an inconsistency within your organizational structure), this is indicated by the symbol (). If you want to execute the indirect assignment, that is, save the result, you must have solved all conflict situations with (allow) or (reject).
All conflict situations are solved, when you solve the conflicts for the highlighted site. In this case a solution which you can accept is suggested for all conflicts in all the higher-level sites.
With rejected actions the symbol for the combination of site and subscription is saved and will always be displayed when this combination is involved in an indirect assignment. Thus you do not have to reject this action again.
Conflicts solved explicitly are cancelled by an ensuing automatic conflict solution. For this reason you should first execute the automatic conflict solution and then correct the suggested conflict solutions individually.
