Use

Mobile client applications support screen reader technology to provide accessibility for visually-impaired users.

Screen readers work by speaking aloud the elements and fields displayed in the application window. With the aid of the screen reader, visually-impaired users are able to navigate through the application, enter data, and use the full range of functions available in the application.

Integration

Mobile client applications are capable of integrating with a number of screen readers, such as JAWS for Windows from Freedom Scientific (www.freedomscientific.com).

Prerequisites

You have installed screen reader software on your laptop.

You have  installed any additionally required helper DLL (dynamic link library) files that may be required for the screen reader you are using in the SAP\Mobile\3rd_Party folder on your laptop.

Features

Screen reader technology uses your computer’s sound card with an internal software speech synthesizer. When you use a screen reader with a mobile client application, the screen reader reads aloud the elements and options that are displayed on your screen, including menu options, tile names, control options, message windows, field labels, and your position within a list. Screen readers also read aloud messages that are displayed in the application status bar.

Because screen readers are focus-based, they read the type and the content of the screen element that is currently in focus in the application window. For example, if the user tabs through a series of fields on a tile, the screen reader reads the name and type of each field. The screen reader will not read fields in other tiles unless the user selects them.
