Definition

Screen areas for searching for and working with categories and hierarchies.

Usage

The Maintain Categories and Hierarchies function comprises a locator and a work area screen. The locator is displayed when the function is first accessed, allowing you to search for categories or hierarchies. When a category or hierarchy is selected from the hit list, the details are displayed in the work area and the locator hidden. You can return to the locator by choosing This graphic is explained in the accompanying text (Locator (F9)). In addition, you can set your own personal defaults for working with the function by choosing This graphic is explained in the accompanying text (Settings). Here you can specify the following:

·        Whether the category and hierarchy maintenance transaction is accessed in display or change mode.

·        Whether the hierarchy or category last accessed is opened in the work area when the function is started.

·        Which tab page (Worklist or Search) is active by default in the locator and whether Category or Hierarchy is set by default in the Find field.

·        Whether the application log is on or off and whether it appears in the upper or lower part of the screen.

Structure

The category and hierarchy maintenance screen contains the following elements:

Locator

The locator is a tool used to search for and select categories or hierarchies according to a combination of selection criteria. The locator appears as a full screen and consists of two tab pages:

·        Worklist

·        Search

Categories or hierarchies you wish to work on frequently can be stored in the worklist.

The Search tab page allows you to search for a category or hierarchy by entering an ID or description. If you do not know the exact ID or description, you can precede or follow your entry with an asterisk to search generically. When searching for categories, you can also specify to which hierarchy the category belongs.

The results of a search are shown in a hit list. From here, you can open the relevant category or hierarchy with a double-click, or copy it to your worklist by choosing This graphic is explained in the accompanying text (Include in Worklist).

If you wish, you can:

·        Display the search criteria and corresponding hit list of the previous or next search. To do so choose This graphic is explained in the accompanying text (Previous Search) or This graphic is explained in the accompanying text (Next Search).

·        Delete the selection criteria in all selection fields in the locator by choosing. To do so choose This graphic is explained in the accompanying text (Delete Search Field Contents).

Multiple selection of categories or hierarchies is possible on both the Search and Worklist tab pages in the locator. On the Search tab page, you can select several categories or hierarchies at once and assign them to your worklist. On the Worklist tab page, you can select several categories or hierarchies at once and delete them in one go.

Work Area

The work area provides you with the tools you require to work with categories and hierarchies. The main elements are as follows:

·        The hierarchy tree in the upper part of the screen shows all categories in the hierarchy selected. This area can be increased or decreased in size by choosing This graphic is explained in the accompanying text (Larger <-> Smaller).

·        The tab pages Hierarchy and Category allow you to display the basic data on the hierarchy or category selected. From the Set Types tab page, you can go directly to set type maintenance by double-clicking on the set type.
If you wish, you can hide the information on the tab pages and therefore make more space available on your screen. To do so, choose This graphic is explained in the accompanying text (Open <-> Close).

·        An application log is displayed either at the top or bottom of the screen, depending on your default settings. It can be switched on or off using This graphic is explained in the accompanying text (Application Log On/Off).

·        Individual functions are available as:

¡        Buttons above the hierarchy tree

¡        Options in the toolbar

¡        Menu options
