Use

If mobile client users address any problems to you as the system administrator, you have various options at your disposal for solving these problems.

Features

Registry Setting for Displaying a Workbook

In general, a workbook is displayed in an area of the client application set aside for this purpose. However, this behavior is dependent on a registry setting. The key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Excel.Sheet.8\BrowserFlags can be used to ensure that the files are opened in a separate screen instead. If necessary, this behavior can be changed by subsequent installation processes. In each individual case, check whether this setting is desired or whether the standard behavior should be restored by deleting this key.

BW Report Tools

The component BW Report Tools is located in the system administrator application. Besides having the option of manually loading reports into the local client database, you can conversely also extract report data. This data can then transferred to another laptop, for example, and loaded there. You can therefore use a special test computer to analyze problematic reporting data in the same form as it appears on a colleague's computer.

Furthermore, you can use this component to completely reassemble (in the sense of rebuild) workbooks - regardless of the time stamp information. It is also possible to delete all assembled workbooks in the cache memory. They are then reassembled when they are next called up.

Lastly, you can assemble in a single run all workbooks for which updated data exists (or which have not yet been assembled). The first time that they are opened by a mobile employee, they are already available in the assembled state.

Log File on the Client

The assembly process is documented in a log file. This log information is found in the file c:\bwmsa.log.

In the Manage and Monitor BW Requests for Mobile Clients screen on the CRM server, you can control whether this file is initialized and, if so, how. You can also control whether it can be called up for analysis purposes on the CRM server. When you double-click in the User Linksscreen, a copy of this file is displayed. The original file version remains on the laptop in question but is replicated if required in CRM.

This view is blank at first because no data is transferred from the client. You first need to choose Transfer Log or Delete to start one of these processes. This generates special BDocs that are replicated to the client with an appropriate subscription and trigger the respective processes in the client. This requires you to create for the client concerned a subscription for BW query reports with REPKIND = "Q", BWUSER = <BW-username>, and BWGROUP = "C:\BWMSA.LOG". Moreover, an identical subscription is not allowed to exist for any other client to prevent the log data from being overwritten.

Depending on the action triggered (see the status display in the top line of the log), the log data on the client is now sent to the CRM system and in certain cases deleted before each assembly (in which case only the last assembly process is visible). Choose Interrupt to terminate the transfer.

Note that this transfer can have a negative effect on the overall performance of the client. For this reason, you should only activate this function to examine problems as they occur and then deactivate it again afterwards.
