Updating the Metadata for External Systems

Technically, metadata from external systems can be defined or updated manually, or using Business Application Programming Interface functionality (BAPI functionality).

If you access the BAPI interface with a third-party tool, the extraction tool from the third party can read the metadata automatically from the source system without a request from SAP BW or it can define the metadata in the third-party tool. Then the tool can transfer the metadata to SAP BW using the BAPI interface.

To manually change the metadata of an external system, enter the requested data in the transfer structure maintenance.
