Metadata Upload for SAP Systems

Purpose

Data that describes the structure of data or metaobjects is called metadata. In the SAP source system, the DataSource is a metaobject that is relevant to BI.

The metadata from the SAP source systems are independent from the BI metadata. There is no implicit assignment of objects using the same names.  Only the information necessary for data extraction is held in the source system and replicated in BI using a metadata upload to accelerate reading. The assignment of source system objects to BI objects takes place exclusively and centrally in BI.

Use

Metadata from a SAP source system is read in the source system using the function Replicate DataSources or Replicate Metadata in the DataSource tree of the Data Warehousing Workbench and are replicated to the BI or created there. When you create a SAP source system, an automatic metadata upload is carried out.

You can request the metadata for a DataSource in the DataSource tree, or the metadata for an application component, or all the metadata of a source system: With Replicate Tree Metadata, the application component hierarchy of the SAP source system is replicated to BI.
