Catalog areas are used to structure the product catalog. For example, in a Web shop for pumps the different catalog areas could be petrol pumps, bicycle pumps, car pumps, and so on.
· You have defined the relevant products in the product master.
· You have set the catalog area types, folder templates for documents, and the text determination procedure in Customizing.
· If you are using automatic product assignment, you have created the relevant product categories in the product master.
· To be able to use area lists of characteristics, you must have created one when managing lists of catalog characteristics.
· You have already created a catalog header.

1. To start the process, choose Customer Relationship Management ® Master Data and Generic Services ® Product Catalog ® Maintain Product Catalog.
2. In the overview tree, select the node to which you want to add a catalog area.
Select to display all of the pushbuttons.
3. Using either the context menu or a push button, select Create area ® Sub-area or
4. Create area ® Next area (on the same level).
5. Enter the Catalog area and Description.
Using the Description Language Key you can create descriptions in other languages.
6. If you want to automatically assign products to your catalog area (and the catalog type allows you to), select automatic product assignment.
If you have selected an automatic product assignment, specify product hierarchy header data and product category in the data area.
7. Enter data as required under Basic Data in the Header Data area.
8. If you want to assign multimedia objects, see Assigning Multimedia Objects for further information.
9. If you want to create texts, choose Texts and enter a text.
10. Save your entries.
You have created a catalog area.
· If you chose automatic product assignment, the products are automatically assigned to the catalog area.
· If you chose manual product assignment, you can now manually assign products to the catalog.
