Use

This function offers you various options for assigning products from the product master to product catalog areas. The option that you choose depends on the type of catalog and the target groups that belong to it.

Prerequisites

·        You have created the appropriate products in the product master.

·        If you want to use the automatic product assignment, make sure that the relevant product categories have been created in the product master.

Features

A check is made during product assignment to see whether a product is locked in the product master, is intended for archiving, or has already been archived. If this is the case, the product can no longer be included in the product catalog.

The following product assignment methods are available:

Application

Manual product assignment

You assign products manually from the product master to a catalog area.

Manual assignment (also deleting) is only possible when the catalog area is inactive, or a working version exists.

The assignment is only valid for the relevant catalog area.

Marketing orientated catalogs

See Catalog Types.

Automatic product assignment

Products in the product master are grouped into product categories without reference to a catalog.

You assign a product category to one or more catalog areas that could also, in turn, lie within various catalogs. The products are automatically assigned to the corresponding catalog areas using the product category.

Should changes in the product category be made after assignment (adding, changing, or deleting products), then they affect all catalog areas, to which this product category is assigned.

Functional catalogs

See Catalog Types.

Automatic and manual product assignment:

You manually assign products from the product master to certain catalog areas. You assign a product category to other catalog areas. The relevant products are automatically assigned.

See above.

You cannot deactivate products with automatic assignment. This means that you cannot assign any further characteristics, texts or document types to these products in the product catalog. See Assigning Multimedia Objects
