Component documentation The BW Adapter Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Purpose

The BW Adapter extracts data into the SAP Business Information Warehouse (SAP BW).

It is called up as part of the flows for the following BDoc types:

·        sBDoc types for synchronizing the consolidated database (CDB) and the mobile clients

·        mBDoc types for the message flow within the CRM server

With the appropriate BDoc type, the BW Adapter extracts the following objects into the SAP BW:

·        CRM business transactions (mBDoc)

·        Documents for CRM billing (mBDoc)

·        Other objects that are only relevant for mobile clients, such as Chemical Market Potentials (sBDoc)

Implementation Considerations

You first have to execute the initialization of the delta process to transfer from CRM and into SAP BW all data that can be extracted using a DataSource. This step only has to be performed the first time round.

Integration

The initialization of the delta process occurs without integration to CRM Middleware. Only the delta is transferred to SAP BW with subsequent extractions. This delta is determined using CRM Middleware and, in the case of a delta upload, transferred to SAP BW using the Service API, the standard interface in SAP BW for source systems.

Features

The BW Adapter translates the BDoc data into a structure compatible with SAP BW, that is, into an extraction structure of a DataSource. In this way, the data can be extracted as usual into SAP BW. For information on extracting data from source systems into SAP BW, choose Business Information Warehouse ® Administrator Workbench ® Source System in the SAP BW documentation in the SAP Library.

Extracting a DataSource using the BW Adapter requires additional information, called BW Adapter metadata. This metadata contains, for example, the assignment of the DataSource to a BDoc. For you to be able to use one of the DataSources delivered by SAP, you need to activate these DataSources as well as the corresponding BW Adapter metadata. To carry out the activation, choose Integration with Other mySAP Components ® Data Transfer into SAP Business Information Warehouse ® Settings for Application-Specific DataSources (CRM) ® Settings for BW Adapter ® Activate BW Adapter Metadata in Customizing for CRM. See also the documentation about this IMG activity.

You can either create the DataSources with which to extract objects from an sBDoc or enhance the delivered DataSources. You do this in Customizing for CRM under Integration with Other mySAP Components ® Data Transfer into SAP Business Information Warehouse ® Settings for Application-Specific DataSources (CRM) ® Settings for BW Adapter ® Maintain DataSource and Enhance BW Adapter Metadata. See also the documentation about this IMG activity.
