User Management in SAP NetWeaver Portal

You can integrate CRM E-Commerce with the SAP NetWeaver Portal. If you do so, you must take into account that the user management concept will be affected and you need to take further steps to enable your users in the portal landscape. To provide a seamless integrated user interface experience for your customers between CRM E-Commerce and the NetWeaver Portal you need to combine the CRM E-Commerce user management with the SAP NetWeaver Portal user management and specific logon procedures to enable users in the portal.
The SAP NetWeaver Portal user logon procedure is based upon User Management Engine (UME) logon functionality, which is a built-in functionality of SAP Web AS Java 6.40 and higher. The UME is used to provide Single-Sign-On (SSO) functionality. This enables users to log on to the portal once and access the various applications enabled in the portal, without having to provide their logon credentials each time they enter an application. For this to work you must ensure that the user IDs for users in the SAP NetWeaver Portal and CRM E-Commerce are identical and users must be maintained simultaneously for both applications.
For more information on maintaining users for CRM E-Commerce in the SAP NetWeaver portal, see the CRM E-Commerce user management documentation in SAP Solution Manager.
