Reference Users
You use reference users in B2B and B2C CRM E-Commerce user management. Reference users are general, non-person related users and can be used to simplify authorization maintenance. You assign authorization roles to the reference user. If you assign a reference user to an Internet user, the user inherits all of the reference user’s role attributes and authorization profile.
The use of reference users differs slightly between B2B and B2C CRM E-Commerce
· In B2B CRM E-Commerce you can optionally use reference users to assign authorization roles to users. Alternatively, and recommended, you can assign authoriztions direct to users instead of via a reference user. Direct assignment is most commonly used in the case of B2B. If you do use reference users, you assign them manualy to B2B users in user maintenance.
· In B2C CRM E-Commerce, due to the fact that users self-register in the B2C Web shop, it is mandatory that you use reference users to assign autorizations to your users. Reference user assignment is carried out automatically by the system for B2C users.
You create reference users in the backend SAP CRM system using normal user maintenance. You assign them the user type reference and assign all necessary authorizations to the user.
Once you have created your reference user you can assign it to your Internet users either in your backend SAP CRM system or in Web-based User Management application.
· SAP CRM
In the backend system you assign the reference user to the Internet user on the roles tab page in user maintenance. In the SAP Easy Access Menu choose Architecture and Technology ® System Administration ® User Maintenance ® Users. Create a new Internet user or maintain an existing user and assign the reference user on the Roles tab page. The Internet user automatically inherits all authorizations assigned to the reference user.
· Web-based User Management
To make the reference user available for selection in Web-based User Management application you need to carry out an IMG activity. This reference user can then be assigned to Internet users for your B2B applications. In Customizing for Customer Relationship Management choose E-Commerce ® Basic Settings for E-Commerce ® Internet User ®Web-based User Management ® Enter Reference Users for Web-based User Management.

You can create as many reference users as you like for B2B Internet users. Once created they will all be available for your selection during user maintenance. You can, however, only assign one reference user to one B2B user. This means you can have as many different reference users as needed for your various scenarios and Web shops, but you can only select one of those available to assign it to a B2B user during user maintenance.
Once you have created the reference user you must assign it to reference user variable, and then maintain both in the B2C Internet user maintenance. Once you have made these assignments the system can automatically assign the reference user to the Internet user created when a customer registers in the Web shop. The user, prompted by the system, enters the necessary registration details and the system uses the details to create a user and assign the reference user to the master record in the backend system. The reference user contains authorizations and these are then passed to the new user in the B2C Web shop.
· You assign a reference user variable to a reference user in Customizing for Customer Relationship Management ® E-Commerce ® Basic Settings for E-Commerce ® Internet User ® Assign reference User Variable for Internet Users.
· You maintain refernce user variables and reference users in B2C user maintenance in Customizing for Customer Relationship Management ® E-Commerce ® Basic Settings for E-Commerce ® Internet User ® Set Up Internet Users (B2C).

You can create as many reference users as you like in the backend system for your B2C users. However, you can only use one of these reference users for your B2C users. You assign this one reference user in Cunstomizing and it will be used for all your B2C Web shops.
