Installed Base Processing in CRM
You can use this business process to organize and maintain the objects that are installed at your customers' sites, such as devices, machines, or software, in a multiple-level hierarchy of components of an installed base. Installed bases are the reference base for service processes.

The following business process runs in the CRM server:
...
1. Create or maintain installed base
You use an installed base to organize products, individual objects, text components, and installed bases in a hierarchical structure as components.
2. Assign business partners
Assign business partners such as sold-to party, service employee group, responsible employee, and so on, to the installed base.
3. Add component
You can insert various types of components in installed bases: products, individual objects, texts, and installed bases. Additionally, you can use structure gaps as placeholders for products and individual objects. The system arranges the components in a hierarchy.
4. Create counter
You can create counters for installed base components.
5. Create initial counter reading
You can create an initial counter reading for the counter that you just created. Then, you can enter readings for counters in installed base components. There is also a readings history available.
6. Maintain warranty
You can create warranties for installed base components or assign existing warranties.
7. Assign qualification
You can define qualification requirements for service employees for an installed base or an installed base component.
8. Assign business partners
Assign business partners such as sold-to party, service employee group, responsible employee, and so on, to the installed base components.
9. Maintain address
You can assign an address to an installed base or installed base component. Depending on your settings, the address data may be used to calculate the geographical coordinates for an installed base or an installed base component.
10. Install or dismantle component
You can update your installed base by installing other components or dismantling existing components. If you dismantle a component with type individual object or product, the information remains in the form of a structure gap.
11. Display related service process
Service processes that reference an installed base or installed base component are listed. The following service processes are supported: service orders, service contracts, and cases.
