Working with Master Groups
Master groups are used to restrict the selection base during target group modeling in the Segment Builder. They are used to make a pre-selection that allows you to avoid having to enter certain selection criteria again for every modeling run, and that also excludes certain business partners (for example, business partners selected for deletion) from the selection.
Master groups can be created by reports that must be predefined in Customizing, or they can also be created via Segment Builder.
In the standard delivery, the following programs are used to create master groups:
● B2B / B2C
● Country Distribution
● Territory Management
● All Business Partners by Channel Partner
● From Target Group
Reporting can be carried out for master groups in SAP Business Information Warehouse. When creating the master group, you determine to which BI system the master group data is to be transferred.
In Customizing, you must have defined a program for creating the master group.
The CRM menu contains a separate transaction for creating master groups. This is where you define the segment type of the master groups (for authorization purposes).
You have two options for creating the master group: direct in online mode or at a later point in time (for example, overnight) in batch mode.
In Segment Builder, you can create a master group from a target group. To do this, right click in the SAP GUI on the required target group and choose Follow-Up Processing Create Master Group from Target Group. In the People-Centric UI choose Create Master Group.
For master groups that were created in the master group transaction, the update is already scheduled from the outset. However, for master groups that are created in Segment Builder, a regular update must be scheduled. This is also done using the Job Wizard.
Mandatory use of master groups
You can use the master group to define that a campaign manager can only select customer data for which he or she is responsible. When the campaign manager creates a profile set, he or she is forced to enter the appropriate master group.
In Customizing, you can define that the use of master groups is mandatory for certain segment types. The segment type is linked to the authorization object that can be used to determine which user has display, change, or delete authorization for which segment type.
