Purpose

The sales representatives use the Mobile Sales Application (MSA) to perform their day-to-day activities. The data, which the sales representatives record in the mobile client, must be synchronized with the data in the corresponding server, such as the CRM server, Microsoft Mail Server, or Backweb Content Management Server. ConnTrans allows you to synchronize data between the mobile client and the respective server.

When you start synchronization by using ConnTrans, it uses the following transfer services:

·        Message Transfer Service to exchange data with the CRM server

·        Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) Service to exchange data with the Mail Server

·        Backweb Service to exchange data with the Backweb Content Server

Integration

To synchronize data by using ConnTrans, the system administrator must configure the following attributes of a site by using Administration Console. In the site definition, the new site must be assigned to a connection group and transfer group.

Connection Group Assignment

The system administrator can assign the site to one of the following:

·        Default Connection Group

This indicates that a dial-up connection is available. You can configure the mobile client to use dial-up networking or local area network (LAN) to connect to the CRM server. The default dial-up connection is MSA-SERVER. The system administrator can create additional dial-up connections (if required) and enable them in ConnTrans.

·        Already Connected

This indicates that the mobile client will be configured to use an already connected network.

Transfer Group Assignment

You can assign the site to one of the following:

·        Default Transfer Group

The default transfer services under this group are:

¡        Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) for email transfer

¡        Message Transfer Service to exchange data with the Mobile Sales Application (MSA) and Mobile Service Application (MSE)

¡        Backweb Service

·        Messages Only Transfer Group

This group comprises only the Message Transfer Service.

This graphic is explained in the accompanying text

If the system administrator configures the Messages Only Transfer Group, only the MSA /MSE tab appears in ConnTrans. The E-Mail and Backweb tabs are not displayed.
