Background documentationSetting up the ASCII Adapter Client on the Administration Server Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

  1. Start the setup of the ASCII Adapter and the Client software from the respective CDs.
  2. If the client software is Oracle, in the Oracle for NT option choose SQL *Net Easy Config and configure the physical information that leads to the database server i.e., protocol used, machine name of RDBMS-server, TCP/IP port.

This graphic is explained in the accompanying text

The standard Oracle port that will be proposed is 1521. Often this will be different for R/3. Configure the port to certain common values like 1522 or 1527. After completion of the definition of a database connection, you can log on to the RDBMS for test purposes. There, enter the database user / password that also will be used by the R/3 kernel in order to access the RDBMS. Very often sapr3 as user and sap as password will work.
