Example

Creating a Geographical Location Hierarchy

Geographical location hierarchies are used in SAP Merchandise Planning for Retail, one of the consuming applications of SAP Customer Activity Repository. They allow you to group locations by geography and across multiple sales organizations.

You must create and maintain the geographical location hierarchies in the Location Hierarchy service before you can use them in the consuming application.

In this example, you want to create a hierarchy that includes all your locations in the Southwest:

  1. To create the new hierarchy in your Location Hierarchy screen, choose Start of the navigation path Create Next navigation step Geographical Location Hierarchy End of the navigation path.

  2. In the Location Hierarchy Maintenance screen, specify the properties of your hierarchy.

  3. Choose Editor and define what your hierarchy should look like:

    • You can freely define the top levels.

    • As leaf nodes, you can only assign distribution chains (type code 04) with their respective locations. The distribution chains are created automatically when you import the locations. The locations are already assigned to them, based on the sales organization of each location. This ensures that you can only make correct assignments so that your hierarchy remains consistent.

  4. Save your changes.

  5. You can go back at any time and further edit the hierarchy.
