Function documentationMonitor Exceptions

You use the Monitor Exceptions function to gain the insight that you need to resolve your exceptions.

Note Note

To access this function on the SAP Easy Access screen (transaction nwbc), choose Start of the navigation path Services Next navigation step Monitor Exceptions End of the navigation path.

End of the note.

Prerequisites

  • Your application consumes the Demand Data Foundation (DDF) module in SAP Customer Activity Repository.

  • Your application uses the DDF exception management concept.

  • Exceptions exist in the system.

Activities

You can do the following:

  • Save Your Filter Criteria As A Reusable Variant

If you want to use the same criteria on a regular basis, you can save them as a variant. To do this, specify your criteria in the Filters area and then select the tool icon to save your new variant. You can overwrite, delete, and switch between variants as needed. You can also set a default variant that will open automatically when you call up the Monitor Exceptions function.

    Recommendation Recommendation

When you are ready to evaluate the search results, hide the Filters area using the arrow icon.

    End of the recommendation.
  • Evaluate Exceptions in Tabular or Graphical Display

When evaluating exceptions in tabular display, you drill down from general information to more specific information (left to right). You start by checking which business areas are affected. Select a business area to see all the message context types for that area. Select a type to see all its message context instances. Select an instance to see the generating processes where exceptions have occurred. Select a process and choose Refresh in the Filtered Exception Messages area to see the high level exceptions.

    Recommendation Recommendation

You can change the sequence of the tables in the Evaluate Exceptions area. Choose Settings and adjust the screen layout as desired.

    End of the recommendation.

You can switch to the graphical display at any time using the gear icon at the top right. This display shows your current table selections as a pie chart. You also see the top five most common message types and the quantity in which they occurred in the last five days.

  • Filter Exceptions by Business Area

You can use business areas to allow users to focus on those exceptions that are relevant for their role and area of responsibility. DDF comes with a set of standard business areas (for example, Master Data Management), but you can also create your own business areas (transaction SE16).

In Customizing, you can assign exceptions to business areas and adapt the default assignment for all standard exceptions.

  • Filter Exceptions by Context Information

The context information indicates the business context or technical context to which the exception applies. You can filter the exceptions by their context type (such as Product) and their context instance (such as the actual product IDs).

  • Filter Exceptions by Generating Process

You can further drill down to the process that has generated the exception (such as Forecasting).

  • Collapse / Expand Screen Areas

You can hide the Evaluate Exceptions area if required. Simply choose the Collapse Tray / Expand Tray icon at the top right. You can do the same in the Details area.

  • View High Level Exceptions

You can view the high level exceptions in the Filtered Exception Messages area. First, set all the filters that you want under Evaluate Exceptions. Then, under Filtered Exception Messages, choose Refresh to display the associated high level exceptions.

  • Change Message Statuses

Any new exception automatically receives the default status New under Filtered Exception Messages. You can manually change statuses as required. All statuses maintained in the /DMF/MSGSTATUS table are available for use.

Note that you can create additional custom statuses in Customizing.

  • View Low Level Exceptions and Exception Details

The Details area provides more information about the high level exception selected under Filtered Exception Messages. You can view the assigned low level exceptions, the business area, and context details.

  • Delete High Level and Low Level Exceptions

When you have resolved an exception, you can mark it for soft deletion under Filtered Exception Messages. The marked high level exceptions and their assigned low level exceptions will be deleted from the database the next time the Purging Exceptions from the Database report (/DMF/PURGE_EWB_MESSAGE) is run.
