There are two types of drill through functionality in the Microsoft version of Planning and Consolidation. One type allows you to view data that is linked from a database table (including external databases and the Journal database). The second type of drill through allows you to view data linked from a URL.

Prerequisites

An administrator has defined a drill-through definition on the active application (URL-based) or on the active dimension (database-based). For set up information, see Drill-Through Setup.

To access the drill through content, users have the been assigned EndUserDrillThrough task privileges.

Features

Database-based drill through

The ability to drill through to a database table is available on any EvGTS, EvGET, EvDRE, or EvINP cell that references a dimension for which a drill-through definition has been defined.

For example, your report shows a Revenue account for a particular vendor. An administrator has defined a drill through definition that references that particular cell and that queries the Sales Information System database. When you click the cell, the system returns the customer orders for that account.

URL-based drill through

The ability to drill through to an external URL allows you to drill through to a target with the mapping of an EvDRE page key or a specific current view.

For example, if your selection is a data cell, the value of the URL parameters is taken from the dimension member or property value of the current selection. If your selection is an empty cell, the value of the URL parameters is taken from the dimension member or property value of the current view.

Activities

  1. From a report that contains drill-though functionality, select a cell, then choose Drill Through from the action pane.

  2. If there is more than one drill through defined for a cell, a list of drill through keys is displayed. Select one, then choose OK.

    Note Note

Since drill-throughs are specific for each application and purpose, contact your administrator for descriptions of the available drill-throughs.

    End of the note.
  3. If the content is accessed from a database, indicate whether you want to view the results of the drill through in a Web browser or Excel. If the content comes from a URL, the relevant data is displayed in a browser.
