Background documentationValidity Period

Each condition has at least one validity period that starts with a valid-from date (required entry field) and that can be restricted by a valid-to date (the condition is valid up to and including this date). If the user creates another validity period for the condition that has a valid-from date that is before the valid-to date of the previous validity period or if the previous validity period did not have a valid-to date, for the purpose of calculations the system uses the new validity period from its valid-from date.

The system interprets a condition as "used" if it has at least one used validity period:

  • The Account Management application provides the date of the last settlement (for settlement conditions, for example) for which the system used the condition.

  • The Bank Analyzer application does not provide any date because it does not recognize that any condition has been used.

You can change any validity period that the system has not yet used.

You can still change validity periods that have been already used by the system. However, this depends on the application's Customizing settings for backdated changes. For Account Management, for example, you find these settings in Customizing under Define Time Period for Backdated Changes.

You can always change the valid-to date of a validity period if the field is empty or if the system has not yet used the value or the value lies in a period in which backdated changes are permitted. However, the (new) value must lie further in the future than the date on which the application used the validity period.

Creating a Validity Period

In the Condition Details screen area, you can define and change the validity period in condition editing. For more information about the screen layout and the screen areas in condition editing, see Editing Conditions under Scope of Functions.

You create a new validity period for a condition by double-clicking the condition and choosing Create Period from the Condition Details screen area. Specify a valid-from date.

The following key fields contain default values:

  • Differentiation target values

  • Currency

  • Replacement category

Copying or Changing a Validity Period

You copy a validity period for a condition by double-clicking the required condition and choosing Copy Period from the Condition Details screen area.

In addition to the above fields, other fields contain default values (for example, Interest Calculation Method or Percentage).

Specify a valid-from date.

Changing the Valid-From Date

Caution Caution

In contrast to dialog processing, if you want to change the valid-from date of an existing validity period using a BAPI, you have to explicitly delete the original validity period and then create it again.

End of the caution.
