Returning Payment Items
You can return posted payment items to customer accounts or CpD (suspense) accounts, if these items are not to be accepted (return debit, return check). Only recipient items can be returned.
You can also reverse a payment item or execute a transfer posting.
You have made the required settings in Customizing for Account Management (FS-AM)
by choosing :
Define Return Reasons
Define Returnable Transaction Types
Note
This is where you define the time dependency for return reasons. You define for all return-relevant transaction types how long you can select the assigned return reasons for the return of the associated payment items. For example, this ensures that returns of SEPA direct debits in the Single European Payment Area (SEPA) meet the requirements of the European Payments Council (EPC).

This information includes a description of how a return charge can be incurred, and posted on a technical P&L account as revenue. Note the following:
If the charge currency differs from the transaction currency of the payment order of the return, you need to convert the charge amount. If currency translation is activated in the system, note the following:
The payment item for the charge is posted on an account with an account currency that matches the charge currency. This means that the amount is recorded in the account currency, and the amount must be specified in the transaction currency. The exchange rate for currency translation from the account currency to transaction currency is determined by means of the currency exchange module, and the amount is calculated in the transaction currency. Since the exchange rate is in indirect quotation on the item and applies for conversion in the direction “transaction currency -> account currency”, it needs to be inverted for this case.
The exchange rate category to be used for the currency translation is defined in the Customizing for the condition type for the return charge.
Effect on Facilities in Master Contract Management (FS-MCM)
If you execute this business transaction on a loan account from Loans Management, and this loan account belongs to a facility, the system can execute a facility check by means of the Facilities check object. This depends on your system configuration. This check object temporarily reserves the amount that is to increase the facility, and checks whether the posting exceeds the new effective utilization of the loan account. If the posting exceeds the set global limit, the system returns the check results. If the check result evaluation (of all check objects for the payment item) shows that the system posts the payment item, the system updates the facility utilization. If the check result evaluation (of all check objects for the payment item) shows that the system does not post the payment item, the system deletes all the related amounts that were temporarily reserved for the facility utilization.
