Enhanced Editing in Text Mode
Text mode is an editing mode in the BEx Web Application Designer. In text mode you are able to edit the Web template purely textually and use the Web API functions that are not supported in the layout view.
You can access text mode for Web templates that have already been stored via the open dialog for Web templates or via the HTML view of the Template window. There are certain prerequisites. These are mentioned below in the section on Activities. Also see Template Window.
To create a new Web template in text mode chose Web template ® New Template in text mode in the Web Application Designer menu bar.
You can edit the following Web templates in text mode:
· Web templates that contain frame sets.
· Web templates with objects, that are only fully defined in connection with the execution of command URLs. Web templates in which, for example, parameters ITEM_ID or ITEM_CLASS are not there. Also see General Attributes on this topic.
· Web template fragments that are used in connection with the Web item Web Template.
·

Some Web Application Designer functions are not available in text mode:
· Change between layout and HTML view
· Properties dialog for Web items
· Inserting and editing charts.
When you open a stored Web template, the system checks the modes in which the Web template can be edited.
· If the Web template can be edited in the layout view, the Web template is opened in the layout view.
· If the Web template contains unique frame sets or template fragments, the Web template is opened in text mode straight away. A Web template is also opened in text mode straight away if you insert your own comments. You can find more information in the SAP Service Marketplace under the Internet address service.sap.com/notes in SAP Note 668666.
· If the Web template cannot be edited exclusively in the layout view or in text mode, it is opened in the HTML view. You can switch to text mode from the HTML view.
