The following example describes how a hypothetical accounting company, ESAPI Consultancy Services (ECS), uses SAP NetWeaver Portal to provide its accounting services to other companies. ECS has an ABAP system with which they process all the information that they deliver to their customers.

Caution

SAP business packages for Business Suite 2004 and later are not currently supported by the multitenant portal scenario variant. The following SAP business packages for Business Suite 2004 have been tested, but are not fully qualified: MSS v60.1 and ESS v50.4.

ECS is a service provider that manages the account receivables, expenses and payroll for the following companies: TenantA, TenantB, and TenantC. Each of the three companies has trucks for deliveries, truck drivers, and sales persons that travel across Europe each month.

The workforces of the three companies together accrue expenses for transportation, airfare, hotels, communication, and entertainment. For every trip, each employee provides information on expenses relating to the trip, and submits receipts for re-imbursement. Reimbursing an employee is subject to the approval of the listed expenses by the employee’s immediate manager.

To consolidate their service offering, ECS implemented the multitenant portal for their customers, so that each one's employees can submit and confirm their information.

·        ECS created a separate user store per client in its ABAP system.

·        ECS specified each company’s branding elements in the portal.

·        ECS assigned each client a different URL for logging on to the portal, and informed them accordingly.

When employees of TenantA log on to the portal, they see only the tenant for TenantA; likewise for the employees of TenantB and of TenantC. All employees, irrespective of company affiliation, can log on to the portal, perform identical operations, and receive data relevant to their company.

The following figure illustrates how ECS set up a single portal landscape to serve content to their customers (tenants).
