Managing Objects in the Portal
Catalog
The Portal Catalog provides a central access point to portal objects stored in the Portal Content Directory (PCD).
The Portal Catalog provides the following management and editing features:
· Create, move, delete folders
· Create new objects using the content creation wizards and editors
· Delete objects
· Move and create objects using cut, copy, and paste commands
· Open objects to view and edit content and properties

The Portal Catalog does not display child objects that are assigned to container-type objects, such as iViews in pages. To access and edit child objects, you must open the parent object for editing, and then access the child object listed in the editing area. See Editing an Object.
Access permissions determine which folders and objects in the Portal Catalog each user has access to and the actions that can be performed. See Portal Permissions.
The manner in which you build and set up the structure of folders and objects is completely flexible so that you can meet the needs of your organization.
Typically, a low- to medium-level structured outline should be planned in advance, while taking into account the distribution of content development into teams, and the assignment of permissions and responsibilities per folder or branch in the structure. For more information, see Delegated Administration.
