Use

The ‘Search and Replace’ Wizard for Multiple Properties (also named Search and Replace Wizard) enables you to modify the properties of a number of portal objects at the same time. You can also use it to search for properties and values in multiple objects.

Caution

Make sure you read the instructions on how to use the wizard before working with it in a production environment. If misused, the wizard can irreversibly damage your entire portal or parts of it. See Using the ‘Search and Replace’ Wizard.

Integration

Due to the potential harm this wizard can cause to a portal if misused, its capabilities are not integrated directly into the Portal Catalog in every relevant object editor. The wizard is offered as a standalone tool in the portal, for use by a limited number of highly qualified content administrators.

By default, the wizard is assigned to the Content Administration role.

Activities

The wizard offers two search modes:

·        Search by property value: You enter a property value to search for. The wizard finds and lists all objects that contain properties matching that value. This type of search typically retrieves more than one property per object.

·        Search by property ID: You enter a property ID to search for. The wizard finds and lists all objects that contain a property matching that ID. This type of search retrieves only one property per object.

When you enter the search criteria, you can also specify a value to be used as a replacement value in the objects and properties that you specify.

Examples

·        To change the system alias defined in a number of iViews in a single action, you could call up the wizard, choose a number of roles in which the relevant iViews are embedded, enter the existing system alias, and then enter the new alias. The wizard asks you to first confirm which objects and properties you want changed, and then modifies the system alias for you in the selected iViews.

·        To change the authentication scheme for several iViews from default to anonymous, you would call up the wizard and choose any number of folders, roles or pages that contain the relevant iViews. For search criteria, you could enter either the default property value or the AuthScheme property ID (this is the ID of the Authentication Scheme property). In the replacement value, you would enter anonymous. After confirming which objects and properties you want changed, the wizard modifies the relevant properties for you in a single action.
