Procedure documentation Updating the Standby Instance Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Use

At regular intervals, you track the data changes in the original instance in the standby instance (Standby Database).

Prerequisites

You have set up a standby instance.

Procedure

...

       1.      Create log backups in your active original instance at regular intervals. See:

¡        Database Manager GUI, Structure linkBackup Procedures

¡        Database Manager CLI, Structure linkBacking Up and Restoring Database Instances

       2.         Import these log backups regularly into the standby instance after the desired time delay.

¡        Database Manager GUI: Proceed as described in Structure linkRestoring Without a Backup History.

¡        Database Manager CLI: Use the restore commands recover_start and recover_replace.

Note

You can transport log backups using ftp, for example, or copy them using an exported file system (NFS, Shared File System and so on).

Result

The standby instance now contains the same data as the original instance at the time of the last log backup. You can use the standby instance as the active instance at any time.
