Installing/Updating Software on
Linux
You select the software component you require and install it.
The procedure that follows should only be used for updates if you wish to update components for which the software is not stored in the <dependent_path> of the MaxDB installation or if the software installation you want to update is not used by any database instances.

If you want to update components, for which the software is stored in the <dependent_path> of the MaxDB installation and database instances use this software installation, you have to update the database instances together with the software (Updating Database Instances Including Server Software). If you do not, you risk rendering the database instances incompatible with database software, and you may not be able to restart them.
If you have
installed the database software on your computer with the Red Hat Package
Manager (installation with rpm package), you must use this program for
subsequent installations and updates.
You cannot use the SDBINST program for other installations and updates
(installation with tgz package).
For installations on Linux, two programs are available:
· Installations/Updates with the Red Hat Package Manager
· Installations/Updates with SDBINST
