Virtual Data Model: Point-of-Sale (POS) Data

When you model and forecast demand in SAP Customer Activity Repository, you use Unified Demand Forecast (UDF) module. For input, you need to provide historical demand data. You can use the virtual data model for point-of-sale data (time series source POS_VDM) to provide this input. The VDM accesses historical POS data stored in the SAP HANA content of SAP Customer Activity Repository.

Structure

The POS_VDM allows UDF to access transaction log (TLOG) data in the data model of SAP Customer Activity Repository. The TLOG data is aggregated to the level of product / location / sales organization / distribution channel / order channel / day. Note that this time series is not persisted in DDF (unlike the POS_TS time series, see Sales).

Via this VDM, UDF consumes the POSAggregatedSalesByArticleLocation view in the sap.is.retail.car SAP HANA content package. The view provides the demand modeling service with the data required to assess the effects of demand influencing factors (DIFs) on consumer demand.

For more information about the data consumed, see View Grouping: POS Aggregated Sales Data for Demand Data Foundation. You can also find there information about attributes, calculated measures, filters, and tables.

Note Note

To provide historical POS data, you can use either this VDM or the POS_TS time series (see Sales).

End of the note.

Integrating Promotional Information

With this VDM, you can also integrate promotions defined in SAP ERP and use them as input for demand modeling and forecasting. Providing promotional information as part of your demand data is very important because promotions can significantly impact consumer demand and thus, also the forecasted unit sales. You can use the SAP ERP promotions in addition to promotions defined in SAP Promotion Management for Retail, for example.

  • Prerequisite: Your SAP ERP system must have been set up to provide all the promotional information required for demand modeling and forecasting. To determine those requirements for your customer-specific system landscape, please contact your SAP consultant.
