Function documentationAudit Trail: Overview of Functions Locate this document in the navigation structure

The Audit Trail component enables you to change the logging settings for both individual table fields and entire tables (that is, switch the logging function on and off) and display such settings.

Prerequisites

  • You must have authorization to display, change and evaluate the changed data. The necessary authorizations are included in the PFCG Roles for Audit Trail. The corresponding PFCG role must be assigned to your user.

  • The objects (tables and data elements ) for which you want to change the logging settings must be transportable. Local objects thus cannot be changed.

  • To enable the logging setting for individual table fields to be changed, the associated transaction must be connected to change document creation. Otherwise, only the entire table can be logged.

Note Note

Whether or not a transaction is connected to change document creation is defined in the system.

End of the note.
  • You must activate the system profile parameter rec/client in each client in which you want to carry out table logging.

Features

Audit Trail consists of several subfunctions that can be made available individually depending on user authorizations:

Transaction

Use

S_AUT01

Comparison and adjustment of previous and new logging settings after a system upgrade (takes place automatically).

Also displays manual changes to the setting in other transactions if these were previously configured with transaction S_AUT01.

S_AUT01

Change to logging settings for individual table fields or whole tables. The system stores each change to the logging settings so that the existing status can be restored after a system upgrade.

S_AUT02

Creation of graphical navigation aid so that changed objects can be located again quickly. As an alternative to this, transaction S_AUT01 contains direct technical access for experienced users. If you are activating or deactivating logging for an object for the first time, you must always use the technical access.

S_AUT03

Display of logging settings for table fields or tables. If you are not authorized to change the logging settings, you can display them with this transaction.

S_AUT04

Setting for deleting long text logs.

S_AUT05

Immediate deletion of long text logs from the logging table.

S_AUT10

Evaluation of logged data according to individually determined criteria.

In an ILM environment, you can also evaluate archived long text and table logs.

Note Note

Although it is possible to change the logging settings for tables and data elements by modifying the SAP system, SAP recommends that you use only the Audit Trail function to do so. This is the only way to ensure consistent and clearly traceable change documentation.

End of the note.

Caution Caution

Changes to the logging setting are carried out without technical modifications being made to the system. This does not mean that the changes do not have an effect on the business and technical processes of the standard SAP system. If you change logging settings, you have to carry out a thorough and intensive test of the business processes implemented and used by you in the SAP system.

End of the caution.

The system stores each change to table or data element logging so that the current logging setting can be restored after an upgrade or correction. More information: Comparison Between Customer System and SAP System
