Function documentation Dynamic Simulation

Use

You use dynamic simulation to model dynamic processes in the enterprise and to derive planning measures from the models. Dynamic simulation in SEM-BPS uses the System Dynamics method that is based on the principle of information feedback. This means that data that is changed during simulation can be fed back into the model again as entry data. Through iterative, continual simulation of one of your models, this function helps to determine the behavior of non-linear models over time. You can define complex scenarios where you can examine the behavior of your enterprise under changing conditions and you can influence this behavior in the simulation by altering the parameters.

Integration

Plan data that is changed in the course of a simulation is written to the data basis by SEM-BPS. There, it is available to other planning functions and also to the SEM applications that access the same data basis – especially the SEM-CPM applications.

Prerequisites

In order to construct and run dynamic simulations, you must have the Powersim Constructor program installed on your PC.

Features

You can use the key figures and characteristics that are assigned to a planning level to create and process multiple simulation models. You define dependencies between various elements in a scenario and quantify these dependencies. You link internal enterprise figures (for example, planned revenue, market share) with internal factors that you can control, in order to achieve your enterprise goals (for example, R&D activities, sales efforts), and with external factors that affect your enterprise (for example, market saturation, competition). By controlled changing of the various influencing factors, you can establish what effects they have on your enterprise's profitability.

Simulations use the same data from the SAP Business Information Warehouse that SEM-BPS accesses for other planning functions. Also, any changes that are made to the data during the course of simulation are written to the SAP BW on saving.
