Background documentation Basic Customizing  Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Before you can use ArchiveLink, you need to carry out the basic Customizing: In the Implementation Guide (IMG), choose the following: SAP Web Application Server ® Basis Services ® ArchiveLink ® Basic Customizing.

Explanations of the individual activities are contained in the online help in the IMG. The following is an overview of the required steps.

·        Maintaining Content Repositories

Content repositories are logical units within a storage system. There can be several content repositories in one storage system to physically or thematically structure all the information as necessary.

·        Maintaining document classes

The document class is the technical format of a document type (for example, PDF, ALF, DOC etc.). The document class is required for maintaining the document type.

·        Maintaining document types

A document type groups documents of the same type together (Example: Incoming invoice without invoice verification). The document type is involved in controlling the storage process. Some Customizing settings for storage scenarios are made according to the document type. Before a document is stored, it must be assigned to a document type so that the correct processing for the document is triggered.

·        Maintaining Links

You link a document type to an object type, a content repository, and a link table. This determines the following for the documents of this document type: The documents can only be linked to instances of the specified business object type. The link entry is written in the specified link table. The documents are always stored in the specified content repository.

Note

In the IMG, the activities Edit Document Types and Edit Links are carried out in the Customizing for the appropriate storage scenarios, because the document type plays a central role in Customizing for the storage scenarios.

ArchiveLink supplies the Document Types Customizing Wizard for help when creating document types. This integrates the basic customizing steps Document types and Links.

For more information, see the Document Types Customizing Wizard.
